Thomas B Brown was an Engineer and Millwright working from the Tiel Engine Works, Kirkcaldy. Amongst his repertoire, he made brick, tile and pipe machines on the most approved principles. He later teamed up with a Mr Kirk.

John Ainslie was a farmer from Redheugh, Nr Dalkeith Scotland. in the 1840’s he invented and patented brick and tile making machines.
