Waldies No 1

Found Seafield, Edinburgh.

James Waldie & Sons, Tile Makers, 103 Leith Walk, Edinburgh, Midlothian. Probably manufactured at the Newbattle Brickworks, Newtongrange, Midlothian where the company had a lease in 1872.

Below – Found in Edinburgh in 1990 and kindly donated by Nick Basden. This appears to have a different composition and quality to the example above.

Below – Virtually the same stamp on a brick found by Joan Faithfull in the Edinburgh area. It does however not have the 4 x overly large carbunkles as per the bricks above. The chamfered sides to the frog also look more defined.
