07/01/1899 – Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser  – Larkhall – Trade during 1898 …In connection with the enamelling, fireclay and brickworks, trade has been steadily on the increase and additional buildings have had to be erected at the existing works at Shawsburn and Birkenshaw. By C. 1904 these brick works were known as the Caledonian Brick Works and by 1938 it was known as Birkenshaw Brick Works.
