A substantial collection of silica fire bricks from steel-making furnaces have now been recovered from a dump site to the rear of the Dalzell Iron and Steelworks, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire. This example was found on the site of the old Jenny Lind Brickworks, Near Motherwell, Lanarkshire adjacent to the old site of the Ravenscraig Steel Works.
Unfortunately, the stamp is poor quality and may indeed have been stamped ‘T. Wragg Sheffield’
This was manufactured in England but the ‘LAN’ reference denotes that is was manufactured specifically for a works in the Lanarkshire area and very likely the Ravenscraig Steelworks and as such, I have created this page because of the Scottish interest.
