Unidentified brickmaker – possibly Scottish.
It is believed that this brick came from a flat arch window design. The keystone (middle) would be marked one and each brick to the left and right would be marked to assist with the build. So the brick to the left and right of the keystone would be marked II, the next either side III etc etc.

This example was found near Pitkaranta in Karelia, Russia by Vladimir Smirnov. I am not in possession of this example. Garnkirk Fireclay Works, Garnkirk, Lanarkshire. . . .
Found by Richard Comish at Millom, Cumbria. I think this stamp may be II as in Roman numerals as Docken used them on their bricks but I appreciate it could equally be 11 – eleven.
