Gartcraig brick found by Denny DeMeyer at Sechart Lodge (old whaling station) in Barkley Sound, BC, Canada.
The Pacific Whaling Company opened its first whaling station at Sechart in the Barkley Sound in 1905. For the next few years, demand for whale products was high, peaking in 1911. Due to depleting whale stocks, market slumps, depressions and ageing machinery, Sechart Whaling Station’s last season was 1917.
More than 100 years later, you can still find whalebone, bits of pottery and other artefacts on the grounds of Sechart Lodge.
