Cruden Bay regular brick – personalised ‘Thur’

Found Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire

Cruden Bay brick and tile works, Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire

This example is typical of the bricks still to be found on the site and it is fair to assume that this is the common brick that was manufactured on site.

The reference to Frid and Thur  appears to refer to the days of the week and may indicate when a particular batch of bricks were manufactured or when they were due to enter the kiln for firing perhaps.
