APGR-S 42

Found by Ian Suddaby in Bonnybridge adjacent to the old Bonnybridge Silica and Fireclay site.

This example is not in my possession.

The manufacturer is unidentified.

The find location would suggest Scottish original but it is thought that APGR will stand for AP Green refractories. This was an American company but it had many links to the UK. It also bought out the Douglas Firebrick Company, Dalry, Ayrshire. It also had links to Dyson Refractories the company that took over James Dougal and Sons, Bonnyside Fireclay Works, Bonnybridge.

So is this brick an American import or did APGR stamp the bricks as such when they took over the Douglas Firebrick Works.
