Alpha – Millstone Fire and Grit Co, Herbertshire Brickworks.
According to Falkirk Museums and Archives FMA – Alpha bricks were a product of the Millstone Fire and Grit Co. Incorporated in 1966 and took over the common brickworks at Herbertshire, Denny. Worked open cast fireclay pits at Threaprigg and Slamannan Plateau. Merged with Burn Fireclay Co of Morpeth in 1979 and Herbertshire Brickworks closed.
Found on the site of the Jenny Lind Brickworks, adjacent to the Ravenscraig Steelworks, Lanarkshire. Manufacturer unknown. An open cast fireclay mine worked by the Millstone Grit Fireclay Ltd, Denny.
Found in the Glasgow area by Eddie Mclean. Note the linear markings to the brick. These are on both sides. Note also the unusual ‘B’ and the ‘TA’ letters are upside down, indeed the whole stamp probably is but it does not affect the ‘BE’.
