Whitehill – unmarked brick

Dougie Somerville, Bonnyrigg worked at the Whitehill Brickworks, Rosewell, Edinburgh, Midlothian from 1957 to 1979.

By the time he started work Whitehill had stopped making salt glazed water and sewage pipe. The sheds that had been used for this purpose were still in situ and full of moulds and tools as well as assorted products.

This bullnose brick was one off the products. Dougie obtained a load for a garden wall.

The textured face on the brick was made using a bundled up roll of wire.
