Stein – 2 taper system

From a leaflet entitled Stein – 2 taper system – “anticipate the needs of industry”

In the 2 taper construction, 2 sizes of bricks are used, one with ‘fast’ and one with ‘slow’ taper and they are easily identified by their different colours. They are supplied in the correct ratio to suit a given kiln diameter.

2 taper construction has the advantages:-

Linings do not have to be tailor-made giving quicker delivery from the manufacturer.

Brick stocks are simplified and reduced – just vary the ratio of tapers for the different sizes of the kiln in the plant.

If kiln shell irregularities are encountered through re-lining, the ratio can be altered as required using proportionately more fast or slow tapers to manufacture a tight build to the shell and at the same time ensuring that all joints are radial.
