Compn is an abbreviation for ‘composition’.
This brickmark has been lucky to survive as the back of the brick has suffered major damage.
Note also the ‘N’ is reversed.

Many thanks to Gustavo Coronel for the following information. This ‘Crater’ brick was found in lime kiln furnace No 5, Malagueño, Córdoba, Argentina. Gustavo states that bricks stamped ‘Etna’ were also found lining the furnace but no photograph is available as yet. Manufactured by the Etna or Atlas Brickworks, Armadale, West Lothian. . . ….

The manufacturer is unknown but it is highly likely this was manufactured by Alexander Bald at the Alloa Brick & Tile Works, Alloa, Clackmannanshire.
