Found on the site of the old Atlas Brickworks, Armadale.
Atlas Brickworks, Bathville, Armadale, West Lothian.
This is a slim or a slip brick measuring 1″ thick. It was found adhered to two other 1″ slips. One was marked Atlas and the other was unstamped.
I believe this will be an Atlas product with the ‘A’ either standing for ‘Atlas’ or its a code for a 1″ thick brick.

Many thanks to Gustavo Coronel for the following information. This ‘Crater’ brick was found in lime kiln furnace No 5, Malagueño, Córdoba, Argentina. Gustavo states that bricks stamped ‘Etna’ were also found lining the furnace but no photograph is available as yet. Manufactured by the Etna or Atlas Brickworks, Armadale, West Lothian. . . ….
