This is very water worn but the mark is clear enough apart from the initial ‘W’ which is very very faint.
William Mitchell, Dundee, Sanitary and Earthenware Merchant and manufacturer for every description of fire clay and terracotta goods including white facing fire bricks. (Note – SBH – It is not known if Mitchell operated any of his own brickworks. The company seem to be merchants only).
It is likely these were manufactured by an unknown manufacturer for William Mitchell and stamped with his name.

Found in the Alloa area. The brick is stamped ‘Wilson’ to one side and ‘Stirling’ to the other. Note the elongated ‘L’ in Wilson. The manufacturer is not known for certain.
