Scottish bricks found in Ottawa, Canada.

These bricks were found by Guillaume Girard on the banks of the Ottawa River near to Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Canada.

Other brickmarks found nearby were “T Carr” from the NE of England and a brick stamped “National” which may well have Canadian or American origins.

Around the 1900s this area was heavily used in the processing of lumber.

Robert Clark states – A Govan brick was found about 40 metres east of this location. People often think it was a sawmill, but it was not. The rafts in the picture were squared timber destined for Quebec City and then, in all likelihood, England. The ships may well have come back with fire bricks
