KTG

Found by Ian Suddaby on the site of the old Bonnyside Brickworks.

The manufacturer is unknown.

The find location would suggest Scottish origins but …

Ian states – This brick was stamped KTG, for King, Taudevin & Gregson, of Scotland Street in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. They constructed furnaces for the glass industry, clearly using the best Scottish fireclay bricks. This one was probably made by James Dougall Ltd.

Another possibility is that a KTG furnace or kiln was built in Scotland and the ‘KTG’ fire brick was leftover from the demolition and thus may have been manufactured in England and supplied to build the Scottish KTG.
