High Auchneel Tileworks, Leswalt, Stranraer, Wigtownshire

High Auchneel Tileworks, Leswalt, Stranraer, Wigtownshire. (Note – SBH – I am unsure as to what these tileworks were called. Until further information comes to light I have named them by the title of the nearest farm – High Auchneel).

1856 – National Records of Scotland suggests that the tileworks were open at this time. The records state “Plan of the farm of High Auchneel, the property of Sir A Agnew, Baronet, of Lochnaw’. By John Stuart Bray, land surveyor. Farm plan showing steadings and enclosures. Fields numbered to correspond with acreages and land use given in table of contents. Brick and tile works with kiln, pug mill and clay pit, whinstone quarries, moss and roads noted”

Below – 1893 – The tileworks are marked as disused. (Note – SBH – The tileworks are not detailed on the 1847 map).
