Dourie SO 7

Found by Ian Suddaby on the waste bings at the old Albyn Shale Oil Works, Broxburn.

This example is not in my possession.

Dourie – Garnqueen Fireclay Works, Glenboig, Lanarkshire

Alternative brickworks include:

  • Gartliston Fireclay Works, Glenboig, Lanarkshire.

Building bricks at Garscadden Works, Drumchapel.

Dourie is a trademark of P and M Hurll, Gartliston Brickworks, Glenboig.

The Dourie is a side arch and is stamped SO 7.

It is possible that SO stands for the customer Scottish Oils. Scottish Oils Ltd was formed in 1932 from several struggling shale oil producers including the Albyn Works.
