Below – This large special has the same stamp as Glenboig MM GD 228 and Glenboig KK GD 228. These 3 specials were all found in the same heap of bricks at the old Glenboig Union Fireclay Works. They all actually appear to have been designed to fit together in some way and may have been destined for the same structure. The GD 228 may well be the customer’s reference or order number as it appears in the same format on all three examples
Below – Although it is not obvious how the special on this page fits with the two above, it does have a very distinctive sloping arced side that does match the same curve on one of the above. This special is shown below sitting on top of the specials detailed above.

Many thanks to Bruce MacDonald for the following photographs which were taken at The Sunbury Plantation House, St Philip Parish Barbados. All the bricks present were fire bricks and included English manufacturers such as Ruffors of Stourbridge, Cowen of Newcastle and Duddell of Fenton. 90% of the bricks present appear to have been stamped ‘Glenboig’….
