Below – This large special was found next to a completely different shaped special which was stamped ‘Glenboig MM GD 228‘. Both shapes actually appear to have been designed to fit together and may have been destined for the same structure. The GD 228 may well be the customer’s reference or order number as it appears in the same format of both examples.

Below – A further visit to the site revealed yet another Glenboig special that appears to be connected to the above two. It was stamped Glenboig A GD 228. Although it is not obvious how this brick fits with the two above, it does have a very distinctive sloping arced side that does match the same curve on one of the above. This additional brick is shown below sitting on top of the specials detailed above.

Many thanks to Bruce MacDonald for the following photographs which were taken at The Sunbury Plantation House, St Philip Parish Barbados. All the bricks present were fire bricks and included English manufacturers such as Ruffors of Stourbridge, Cowen of Newcastle and Duddell of Fenton. 90% of the bricks present appear to have been stamped ‘Glenboig’….
