Found by Ian Suddaby at the Manuel Works, Whitecross.

This example is not in my possession.

The manufacturer is unknown but the find location and knowledge would undoubtedly suggest this is a Stein product.

The stamp is stencilled in black.

Ian states – Another test or experimental brick from the JG Stein Ltd brickworks at Manuel in Scotland. This heavy Pup shape brick might well be a Mullite mix, but it’s hard to tell. The permanent marker has indeed proved to be long-lasting, over 50 years now, probably.
