Woodhouselee Tileworks, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire

Below – 07/01/1843 – The Scotsman – George Bell, Farmer, Woodhouselee Tileworks, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire writes a report on the manufacture of drainage tiles on his farm. He obtains quotes from contractors “to make the tiles that he might require for 3 years”…” The contractors were allowed such materials as were necessary for repairing the kiln”… (Note – SBH – These references suggest that there was an old kiln at Woodhouselee and that it was repaired and worked for 3 years.)

Below – 1857 – Over Woodhouselees, Canonbie with an area marked Old Kiln Knowe – This may have been the site of the Woodhouselee Tileworks.
