Below – 28/06/1804 – Caledonian Mercury – … There is a free sea port and harbour at the Troon, with good anchoring ground all round the Troon Point; and under this point there is an excellent bed of fire clay, not above five feet from the surface, and from four to ten feet thick, which is taken out at a small expense, and is in great demand both for exportation and manufacturing on the spot, where a brick kiln, a mill for grinding, a pottery, and three kelp kilns, are erected … (Note – SBH – These works were still advertised for sale on 27/06/1805).
