Prestongrange brick found in Argentina
— 01/04/2024Found by Hector Miguez in the area of Mendoza, Argentina. Prestongrange Brick, Tile and Fireclay Works, Prestonpans, East Lothian. . . . .
Found at the site of the old Etna and Atlas Brickworks, Bathville, West Lothian.
The manufacturer is unknown but highly likely to be a product of either the Atlas or Etna Brickworks.
Is it the name of an overseas customer?
Many Etna and Atlas manufactured bricks ended up in the South Americas, including Argentina. In the 1885 directory for the City of Buenos Aires, there is recorded an importer by the name of Lassalle, J. é Hijos, 81 Mayo Street. (Note – SBH – I know its a very longshot but I wonder if Lassalle imported bricks and could this brick have been manufactured in his name albeit it has been wrongly spelt.)
