(Note – SBH – The brickworks and brick manufacturing companies in the Larkhall area is very confusing to sort out. There were many company name changes, changes of ownership and several sites involved. If anyone sees an issue with the information I have detailed then please let me know).

10/02/1897 – Glasgow Herald – Red Clay Bricks – more durable than stone for outside work. Price 20s per 1000 at Works. Also, fire bricks and flue covers. Larkhall Brickfields Limited, Birkenshaw Terracotta and Fireclay Works, Larkhall.

07/01/1899 – Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser  – Larkhall – Trade during 1898 … In connection with the enamelling, fireclay and brickworks, trade has been steadily on the increase and additional buildings have had to be erected at the existing works at Shawsburn and Birkenshaw. Within the next few years, this comparatively new industry to this district will have attained considerable dimensions, the demand for this class of goods being greatly on the increase …

c. 1904 – By now these brickworks appear to be known as the Caledonian Brickworks and by 1938 it was known as Birkenshaw Brickworks.
