The reference to Bigelow on this special undoubtedly refers to the Bigelow Arch Company of Detroit, USA. Bigelow – Liptak Corporation was originally incorporated in 1927 with the merger of the Bigelow Arch Company of Detroit and Liptak Firebrick Arch Company of Minneapolis, as a direct subsidiary of A. P. Green Refractories Company. Bigelow-Liptak of Canada was incorporated in Toronto in 1940, as a subsidiary of the Corporation.
Below – This example was either manufactured at Glenboig for the Bigelow Arch Company of Detroit, USA or manufactured on license using a Bigelow patented design. I am aware of such agreements as in the latter with such companies as Liptak.

Many thanks to Bruce MacDonald for the following photographs which were taken at The Sunbury Plantation House, St Philip Parish Barbados. All the bricks present were fire bricks and included English manufacturers such as Ruffors of Stourbridge, Cowen of Newcastle and Duddell of Fenton. 90% of the bricks present appear to have been stamped ‘Glenboig’….
