Eglinton

A stretcher stamped, silica brick was found in debris on the site of the old Ravenscraig Steelworks, Motherwell.

The Eglinton Silica Brick Company Limited, Dundyvan, Coatbridge.

Below – Ian Suddaby points out that some of these stretcher stamped Eglinton bricks appear to have a purple hue about them. This is not really seen on other Silica bricks. The Eglinton Silica Company also made ‘chrome’, ‘bauxite’ and ‘magnesite’  bricks so could these be an example of such bricks. Without chemical analysis, we cannot be certain.
