Cessnock Tileworks, Galston, East Ayrshire

1823 – The Duke of Portland is credited as being the first agricultural improver to introduce tile draining to the West of Scotland in 1823. These being manufactured at the tilework at Cessnock. Source – Matthew Yuill.

1867 – James Smith Taylor, Galston Tile Works, Gargieston. Residence – Moorfield, Kilmarnock. (Note – SBH – I am uncertain if the Cessnock Tileworks were also known as the Galston Tileworks but there is a good chance they were so I have added this entry here to ensure it is recorded.)
