C 1237

Found by Ian Suddaby at the Manuel Works, Whitecross.

This example is not in my possession.

Unidentified manufacturer but it is very probable that this was manufactured at the Manuel Works.

Ian states – Quite a few of these bricks have been seen, with a yellowish or yellow-purple colour on the sides and rather more purplish ends with the C1237 code. The fabric is very smooth, not like the granular mullite-type compounds at all. I suspect these are very specialised and interesting bricks, but we’ll probably never know why.
