Buchans Patent, sole makers J & M Craig Kilmarnock
Found in Aberdeenshire by Ian Suddaby.
This example is not in my possession.
Ian states – This is a heavy duty Stable Yard Drain Cover made around 1880 by J&M Craig in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. They were the sole makers for Buchan’s Patent drainage products, designed by William Paton Buchan. The glaze looks like it’s been hand brushed onto the upper surface, the underside is quite different. It’s 18″ by 18″ and 4″ thick.
1886 – 1887 – J & M Craig – Fireclay manufacturers, coalmasters and sanitary potters.
Hillhead Fire Clay Works, Perceton Fire Clay Works, Longpark Sanitary Pottery, Hillhead and Perceton Collieries, Kilmarnock N.B, and Lilliehill Fire Clay Works, Dunfermline.
Sole makers of Buchan’s patent ventilating and disconnecting drain traps, Buchan’s patent grease traps, Buchan’s patent drain pipes and access pipes, Maguire’s patent safety joint drain pipes.
Sole makers for Scotland and Ireland of Potts’ patent Edinburgh air-chambered sewer trap.
