Brick makers, Mid Calder, West Lothian.

07/04/1764 – Caledonian Mercury – Wanted immediately for quarrying stones, in a quarry near Midcalder, two good quarriers properly recommend for their skill, sobriety, and diligence, who will work either by days wages, or by the foot of hewn work, and the road of wall-stones, and who are desired to send a note of their lowest demand, to Alexander Menzies at Mr. Menzies’s, Writer to the Signet, Edinburgh.  The quarry is to be tirred and made quite ready to begin the work.

Wanted also, a person well skilled in making bricks and tile, who is desired to send to the above Alexander Menzies, a note of his lowest demand per thousand, for making thereof, and of the days’ wages demanded by him for searching for proper materials.
