Below – A broken Sicardo brick. Note the face of the brick has been treated with a ‘silica’ coating before firing. This covers about 1″ of every face adjoining the stamped face. It is not the remains of a bonding agent to bond brick to brick.

Found by Reuben Bartolo in a fireplace in Mosta, Malta. Reuben states – The building itself is from the 1500s, I would guess the fireplace is around 1950s. The bricks were between the limestone blocks, behind the fireplace itself.
