Below -Ian Suddaby states – This type uses a metal rod and captive nut in the cut-out in the brick. This photo shows how they fit together with the hole for the rod.

Below – This hanger brick was found by Ian Suddaby at Charlestown, Fife. The stamp appears different, possibly NA 0034 D? 1317 but I have added a photo here it still has the square end from the steel ceiling fixing rod in one of the sockets.
