There is the distinct possibility that this fire brick was manufactured in Scotland for an overseas customer and that the G & A or C & A brickmark are the initials of that customer. There are many examples of Scottish manufactured bricks being marked with the customer’s name rather than the maker’s name.

Found on the St. John River, Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada by Jamie Wong. Unidentified maker but this must surely be of Scottish origins especially with regards this example – G & A Scotland It was found among numerous other Scottish bricks – click me The brick has now been repatriated back to Scotland. . .
