Fire bricks wrapped in rope – China

Ron Toothill found some very interesting photographs. They show firebricks stacked on a loading bay in China.

A working practice for bricks manufactured in China for their home market was to have the bricks wrapped in rope bundles ready for onward transport. Normal firebricks were wrapped in bundles of 4 and chequers/checkers were wrapped individually.

This must have been extremely time consuming as millions and millions of bricks were wrapped in this manner.

Bricks imported into China and exported from China were palletised in the normal/usual way with steel straps and shrink-wrapped in a plastic cover.
