Find location would suggest Scottish origins but …

This may represent Fleming & Moritz, Brick and Tile Maker, Atlas and Armadale Brickworks, Bathgate, although why they would use the ‘X’ instead of an ‘&’ is unknown.

Below  – This F X L brick was found by Steven by Steven Tait in the Co Durham area. This is believed to be a variation of ‘F & L’ – Ferens & Love Brickworks, Cornsay Colliery, Co Durham. This adds weight to the assumption above that the ‘&’ was sometimes substituted with an ‘X’.
